F1 Fastest Lap Records
Speed evolution and fastest lap dominance
About Fastest Laps
The fastest lap is the quickest single lap completed by any driver during a race weekend. Across Formula 1 history, certain drivers have accumulated the most fastest laps, reflecting a combination of car performance, tyre strategy, and outright driver pace.
F1 cars have become dramatically faster over the decades as aerodynamic regulations, tyre compounds, engine technology, and hybrid power units have evolved. Each era has produced circuits and conditions that push lap time records.

Fastest Lap Championship Point
Since the 2019 season, Formula 1 awards one bonus championship point to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race, provided they finish in the top ten. This rule added a new layer of strategy: teams must weigh the risk of pitting for fresh tyres late in a race against the potential gain of a bonus point.
The fastest lap is therefore not just a measure of raw speed — it is a live strategic decision that can influence the outcome of a championship battle.
